Its name today evokes a somewhat erotic notion, but its origin is rather more chaste, referring to the Passion of Christ. Its scientific nomenclature, passiflora, is an allusion to the vine that bears its fruits. Baptised Passion Fruit by missionaries in Brazil at the beginning of the 18th Century, it was used as a metaphorical tool to teach the Calvary: its corolla as the crown of thorns, its pistils as the nails of the cross, its branches as the instruments of flagellation, its five petals and five sepals as the 10 apostles, etc. This fruit, with its intense aromas, cultivated in Latin America, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, is used both in savory dishes and in desserts and pastry, as well as in a great variety of drinks. This purée is obtained by the strict selection and the blending of ripe fruit varieties harvested by our producers. This purée has been finely sieved and packaged in our Valence plant. Our production process guarantees an unvarying sugar content and acidity while maintaining as much as possible the organoleptic properties of fresh fruit.
